Prof. Semih Koray has been elected as a principal member of the Bilim Akademisi (Science Academy).

Renowned for his significant contributions in the field of economic design, Prof. Semih Koray has been elected as a principal member of the Science Academy.

After graduating from Istanbul Erkek Lisesi as the valedictorian, Prof. Koray pursued a bachelor’s degree in mathematics at Boğaziçi University. In 1980, he completed his PhD in mathematics, also at Boğaziçi University.

Prof. Koray concentrated his academic interests on economic and social design, game theory, and social choice theory, gaining international recognition for his work in the field of economics. His studies have been published in reputable journals such as Econometrica, Journal of Economic Theory, Social Choice and Welfare, Review of Economic Design, and Semigroup Forum.

Throughout his academic career, Prof. Koray has served as an editor and associate editor of the Review of Economic Design; as President and Secretary General of the Southern European Association of Economic Theorists; as Chair of the Turkish Mathematics Olympiad Committee; as a member of the Advisory Board for the International Mathematics Olympiad; as President of the Economic Design Foundation; and as Chair of the Bilim ve Ütopya Cooperative.

Prof. Koray has been teaching in the Department of Economics at Bilkent University for over 25 years. During this period, by advising more than 40 graduate students, Prof. Koray has contributed to the academic world.

Established in 2011 with the aim of upholding scientific merit, freedom, and integrity in Turkey, the Bilim Akademisi carries on its activities with 223 full members—14 of whom are faculty members at Bilkent University—and 42 honorary members.
